This is so fun to read! What an amazing trip. We used to live in Mexico City and we traveled to about 25 states, but never made it over to Baja.

I was surprised to see the gray whale flinch at the human touch -- amazing that they have that level of sensitivity. You'd think w/ the thick skin and all the blubber, it might not even register.

If you haven't read it already, I highly recommend "Soundings" by Doreen Cunningham.

What a great, detailed piece on camping in Baja! I traveled there many years ago, escaping Idaho in the late winter for a month or so at a time. It looks very much the same in the photos you shared! I know that isn't the case for places like Cabo, but looking forward to your updates as you travel south. So beautiful to see if again. Enjoy!

Thanks Fiona! I’ve met several people from Idaho here, so I guess it’s a popular escape. So far I’ve managed to stay away from the more developed areas. There are definitely some pockets of peace and quiet left!

You are a brave soul …. Yay you!!!! I was following along on the map when you mentioned your stops. Your photos are beautiful; I can’t imagine seeing all that in real life. And seeing all the wildlife.

Enjoy and stay safe. I love reading about your travels.

I'm spending the winter in a tiny Oregon coastal village. It's gorgeous but the w.i.n.d! It's not the mess your hair up wind. No, It's wind gusts that will almost blow a human over! And, I cried my way while driving out of Wyoming. Wind, so much wind and 18 wheelers were topling over on the interstate. Wind is no joke! Stay safe. Have fun. I'm slightly jealous of your adventure!

I never knew how brutal the wind could be until I came out west! Like you actually have to plan your day around it. Winter on the Oregon coast sounds lovely, though!

This was so fun to read while drinking my morning coffee. You are so inspiring and so brave. I went to Baja when I was a kid, and it was beautiful!

You had me at whale sharks.... if you get a chance to swim with them, I need every detail! 😍

Awesome, Stef! I think Seth and I are going to try to go swim with the whale sharks in La Paz when he comes down for my birthday in March.
