LIZ!!! No lie - I was scrolling through Substack yesterday, trying to figure out where you'd gone, then realizing you'd gone SILENT. Nice to see your words again. Looking forward to more! ~Sharon
Aww thanks Sharon! 🥰 It’s nice to know that I was missed. Life has been pretty intense, and I hope it will slow down soon so I have more time to write. There is much to share!
Nice to hear what you're up to Liz, I have wondered periodically 😊 Beautifully evocative writing, I feel like I'm right there with you (and I loved Joshua Tree when I did my own roadtrip through California some years back) 🌵
Good to hear your (written) voice. Thanks for the update no matter how big or small. Baja is a dream- Im excited for you. Buckle up for those El Norte winds and enjoy some tacos de camaron for me. I had so many wonderful interactions down there-- from guards at miliary checkpoints to kids in the street-- that frequently revolved around curiousity about my dogs. So fun that you're bringing yours for the journey! Buen viaje!!!
Wait, are you saying there’s going to be more wind? In Baja? 😩 When were you there? Have we had this conversation before? Have you written about it? I want to know everything!
I spent December of 2020 and March of 2023 down there. I'm SO excited for you. And yes, 😂 the El Norte Winds are most prevelant in winter but there were ablsotely plenty of times it was calm and beautiful and times when that air was just what the doctor ordered! I have published exactly nothing about that time despite how important it continues to be to my soul and daily life. Looks like I'll have to take a jaunt down memory lane to share some stories with you!
Yes. The living of the things is even more work than the writing, it turns out. Thanks for being here for all of it! I’ll see if I can get those pieces posted soon.
Oh no, more crisis? Please reach out if you want to share. I hope things resolve soon. I thought of you when I was driving across Texas and was trying to remember where in that giant state you are located. Have you spent time in Big Bend?
My dear friend, Having lived out in the southwest and in CA, I know the devil in those winds. You may have heard about the awful fires that are being fueled by the Santa Anas the past few days. There may be smoke ahead. Keep on. Another adventure is ahead.
I know, I can’t believe Los Angeles is on fire. Luckily I’m heading east before I go south. I can’t imagine how scary it must be to live there right now. Everything everywhere is so dry, from the Chihuahuan to the Mojave desert. I got a sprinkle on my windshield in Joshua Tree yesterday, and it was the first rain I’ve seen since leaving the East Coast in November. Someday please tell me more about your time out west!

Thanks Vicki, I’m glad I could bring you in the van with me to be knocked around by the Santa Ana winds. Isn’t Joshua Tree magical?

Yes, please write about Baja and report back!
Welcome back! I’m here for all the pieces, polished or not (and taking time to just live the things before you write about them is necessary too(.

Missed your words! I’ve been grappling with my own crisis and just now getting my bearings. Stay safe amiga!

It’s so good to hear from you …. It has been awhile and I hoped all was okay for you or as okay as it could be. Please take care.
Thank you for thinking of me, Christina, and for your kind wishes. It means a lot! ☺️
Great to hear from you!
Thanks Emily! I’m so glad I finally had an excuse to sit and write.
Lovely to read you 💚 I expected a rest on here from you with all that was going on, albeit I missed being part of your minds musings.
Thanks Sheila! It’s good to be back. 😄
