Thank you for capturing the moment so perfectly. I was in Freedom, NH, halfway up a mountain, and content to be at 97.5% totality. We experienced the chill, the eerie gray dusk and the AWE, but reading your description was the icing on the cake. AND, made me wish I'd made the trip into totality. Still, it is a memory that is treasured and will not be forgotten.

Thanks Liz, loved your piece, well written, captured the before, after & THE MOMENT beautifully! We traveled up to northern VT on the backroads (an idea many had thought of 😵‍💫)…& despite the slow journey, had a wonderful adventure! And, so worth the effort! Truly awesome!

Beautiful as always, Liz. Unfortunately, I don’t live in what would’ve been the path of totality. After reading this I feel like I was there with you, Seth and friends; snacking, conversing, and experiencing the magic of the moment. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your experience of being in the path of Totality! I was at work viewing from out back set up in my chair- in between customers. Knowing here on the NH Seacoast that it was only 94% Totality. It was spectacular… but it left me with such a sense of the unknown… though I felt content in such an awe inspiring moment.

Then after seeing on the news of Burlington, VT Lancaster, NH and Houlton, ME and how they had a few minutes of Totality… I began to tear up imagining what they had witnessed! I can’t say that I was jealous but more so disappointed in myself that I hadn’t taken it more seriously and gone there.

Today I am back to feeling content for having experienced such an event in my lifetime!

So beautiful. It was only at about 35% or so where I live, so I appreciate reading your beautifully written account to experience it vicariously. How amazing to see that in your own backyard!

How wonderful that you could sit in your own backyard and watch this beautiful event! Seattle didn’t get much viewing, so I’m living through others writings. Yours has been my favorite. 🌘🌑🌒

I enjoyed using the eclipse as an excuse to put together a photo essay, which I never really do. It was a productive and fun way to spend half a day.

Reading this made me choke up. I’m in CT but I went up to Vermont for a four day weekend and the experience was definitely an emotional one. We wound up watching the eclipse in Worcester, Vt. a tiny town, who had had a small gathering behind their town hall and were so welcoming to us strangers, offering us food and opening up their town hall bathrooms to all visitors. We met so many nice people. Everything you described was what I felt. It was about 2 and a half minutes where we were, but it still wasn’t enough. There was so much to take in, and so much that added to the experience of a few hours one afternoon on a rare sunny day like you said, amongst snowstorms and rain snd clouds. So many aspects of what an eclipse is to try to take in in such a short period of time. I’m amazed that I got to bear witness to it and though this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity, I really don’t want it to be. But I’ll never forget how being there for that made me feel.

Been there, got the T-shirt? really enjoyed your portrait of the moment. I am in Mexico and not in the path of totality, but as the sun dimmed, everything got quiet and still, then a breeze picked up, and it went dark....here in this fairly rural area and even in town, normal life went on....

Your description of your back yard eclipse get together was fun but it wasn’t clear to me where you were writing from…Maine, NH, Vt??? I must have missed this. And it was great to find out I wasn’t the only one who felt anxious about the eclipse during the days leading up to it. It was not my first eclipse. Last time I looked at it without protective eye wear. Not sure how I escaped eye damage but I did. This time I didn’t want to be tempted again. I stayed in and spent the day cooking.

The eclipse blog was the first one I read. Do I need to sign up somewhere to get an email notice when there is a blog ready to read or will I get that automatically?
